Rules for Educator Preparation and Accountability REPA
We have work to do! Teacher education was represented well at the Professional Standards Advisory Board, and the leadership provided by our higher education representatives was excellent. The Board tabled its vote to forward proposed rules for revisions to educator preparation to allow Board members time to read through the materials and proposals. The Advisory Board will be meeting again in a work session on August 20th at 10:00.
IACTE will host a meeting on Thursday, August 6th on the campus of the University of Indianapolis to review the proposed rule revisions, to identify concerns/issues, AND to discuss proposals/alternatives that we might provide. The proposed rules are attached.
We realize that this is a tough time to get faculty together, but we need to work within the time line the state has set. For those who are available, we encourage you to join us on August 6th. For those of you who are unable to attend, you are encouraged to read the proposed rules and to share your comments and suggestions with Jill Shedd, the IACTE Executive Secretary (jshedd@indiana.edu). This invitation is being extended to IACTE members, and we encourage you to share this information with your faculty, licensing advisors and field directors; representatives from these group are welcome to attend.

Second, the plan for the day:
9:00 - 9:15 Overview of the Issues at Hand
9:15 - 11:30 Breakout Sessions
- To review the eight sections being revised
- To identify concerns/issues
- To identify proposals/alternatives
- To identify existing research in support of concerns and/or different proposals
11:30 - noon Group Summary of Sessions
Noon - 12:45 Lunch
12:45 - 2:00 Next Steps
Please note this will not be a session in which we can take the time to complain. It is important to identify areas of concerns AND to identify alternatives or different proposals. It also is an opportunity to identify research in support of both areas of concerns and alternatives. Please e-mail to Jill research references.
The results of our collaborative work will be forwarded to our higher education representatives on the Professional Standards Advisory Board, as well as to other constituencies. Certainly we will distribute to the membership the results as well.
We hope to hear from you and encourage those of you who can to join your colleagues in the work session on August 6th.
